Concept for the realization of the first privately operated hydrogen refueling station in Italy.

Project Description
The feasibility study commissioned by Kostner GmbH focuses on establishing an independent hydrogen refueling station in Vahrn, Italy. Aiming to be Italy’s first privately financed hydrogen station, Kostner plans to add hydrogen to its existing fuel offerings to promote sustainable mobility. The study explores technical, regulatory, and economic requirements for constructing the station, identifying potential value chains, and projecting future demand. Hydrogen production methods, storage, and the legal framework for hydrogen technologies are reviewed, aiming to meet EU sustainability standards while building local infrastructure for clean energy.
Results
The study concluded that establishing a hydrogen refueling station in Vahrn is viable and beneficial, particularly for public transport and local industry. The proposed station, equipped for both 350-bar and 700-bar refueling, would support heavy and passenger vehicles, meeting an estimated demand of over 150 kg of hydrogen daily. Key outcomes include an economic impact assessment and infrastructure plan that aligns with regional and EU strategies, promoting cleaner fuel alternatives and energy independence in Northern Italy.
